What If My Dog Is Shy or Nervous During a Photoshoot?
If your dog is shy, nervous, or easily overwhelmed, you might be wondering if a photoshoot is even possible.
The answer is: yes! And these can be some of the most beautiful and meaningful sessions 💗
Shy Dogs Don’t Need to Perform
Your dog doesn’t need to:
Sit still
Look at the camera
Be “perfect”
We meet them where they are.
In their safe spaces.
A Calm, Patient Approach
I have years of experience working with:
Shy dogs
Fearful dogs
Reactive dogs
You see, my pup is a rescue from Infinite Woofs Animal Rescue in Edmonton, Alberta. She came to us shy, fearful, and with a complicated dog reactivity.
In other words: She’s perfect 💗!
Working alongside several incredibly knowledgeable force-free certified dog trainers over the past 6 years, we went on the journey together to understand how we can advocate for her, understand her, and set her up for success!
Cooperative care and patience were key to earning trust.
That, and tasty treats! And safe spaces.
In our photography sessions, we take things slowly with:
Space
Breaks
Gentle introductions
Lots of positive reinforcement!
Can you believe this is the same pup that was hiding just a few minutes ago! Thanks to patience, treats, and positive reinforcement, she came out of her shell and gave us this brilliant photo!
“Love this photo of my little girl looking so carefree. Thank you Helen!”
“Amazing photos! I’ve tried to photograph my dogs for years and in just a few minutes she got these beautiful photos that I have never been able to get!”
